New international trade show for the wind industry in Hamburg from 2014 | Europe

New international trade show for the wind industry in Hamburg from 2014

From 2014 onwards, Hamburg will be the venue for an enhanced international trade show for the wind industry. That was announced by VDMA Power Systems and Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH (HMC) at a joint press conference today. The VDMA Power Systems trade show strategy for the wind industry is aimed at keeping the leading international wind energy event in (North) Germany and expanding it. That will be achieved by holding a dedicated wind industry show in Hamburg, in addition to the biennial wind industry presentations at the Energy Fair in Hannover. The Hamburg location has enough growth potential to take up the growing number of international exhibitors and visitors for this flourishing industry. The timing of the new trade show, close to the world?s leading maritime industries fair SMM in Hamburg, gives additional opportunities to attract shipbuilders, shipowners, ports, logistic companies and the marine equipment industry, without which the offshore wind energy market would not be viable.
The primary aim of VDMA Power Systems with this initiative is to ensure that the leading international wind energy trade show stays in Germany long-term. ?We would like to continue the cooperation between the trade fair companies in Hamburg and Husum, in order to make optimal use of the available expertise,? said Thorsten Herdan, Managing Director VDMA Power Systems. ?The dedicated leading international trade show should be continued and expanded in Hamburg, alternating year by year with the ?Wind? event held in the framework of the Hannover Trade Fair. We would like to see a cooperation with DMAG (the Hannover Fair company), too. We are also in discussion with the wind associations in Germany and throughout Europe, and are looking for a broad-based cooperation of everyone involved. The door is open for cooperation.?
?We are very pleased that our concept for this central wind energy event proved convincing,? said Bernd Aufderheide, President and CEO of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH (HMC). ?Our modern fairground gives exhibitors efficient logistics, and ensures excellent access for international exhibitors and visitors. We also have a worldwide network of foreign representatives, which we have already used within the cooperation with Husum to contact international exhibitors. We will get around a table with everyone responsible in the near future, to clarify in detail how we can combine the benefits of Hamburg as the location, HMC?s know-how in organisation of leading industry events, and the requirements of the wind industry, to develop a successful international premier WindEnergy event.?
The project of establishing an internationally leading wind energy trade fair in Hamburg meets with broad-based approval from the industry. ?We look forward to a new leading wind event in Hamburg ? it will be an outstanding platform for the growing onshore and offshore markets,? said Rainer Bröring, CEO GE Wind Energy GmbH. And Thomas Richterich, Chairman of Nordex SE, added that ?Germany needs a leading industry show for the wind sector. Hamburg is ideally suited as the location for this showcase of the German wind industry. Hamburg is the headquarters of many of the major companies of the wind industry, it is bringing together more and more expertise in the offshore sector, and it provides excellent infrastructure in terms of hotels, transport connections and a modern exhibition site. That makes Hamburg the ideal location for a leading international wind industry show.?

?Hamburg has established itself in the past years as the European capital of the wind industry,? stated Felix Ferlemann, CEO of Siemens Wind Power. ?We have set up our global headquarters for the Wind Energy Division here because of the tremendous appeal of this location. We feel that, logically, the next step is for Hamburg to become the venue for the leading European wind energy trade show.?
