HANNOVER MESSE 2012: Industry offers solutions for sustainability

With the gates soon to open on HANNOVER MESSE 2012, all signs are pointing to an exceptionally strong event in the making. Speaking in Hannover on Tuesday, Dr. Wolfram von Fritsch, Chairman of the Managing Board at Deutsche Messe, remarked: ?We are convinced that the upcoming HANNOVER MESSE 2012 is going to be a major success. The timing of the fair couldn?t be better: The ongoing debate on sustainability and the energy transition is kicking the world?s industrial innovators into even higher gear. Industry stands committed to leveraging the opportunities posed by today?s challenges. The innovations on show at HANNOVER MESSE will demonstrate that sustainability and the energy transition are technologically achievable. What?s more, the business community is showing renewed confidence in the global economic outlook. Enterprises are easing off on the emergency brake and setting their sights on growth ahead.?

The lead theme for this year?s event is ?greentelligence?. In the words of von Fritsch: ?Companies are sharpening their focus on intelligent integration, streamlined processes, optimal and eco-friendly resource utilization and sustainable products. This is the combined approach that promises long-term competitiveness.?

On the evening of 22 April, Chancellor Angela Merkel will officially open the world?s leading technology event together with Wen Jiabao, the Premier of the State Council of the People?s Republic of China, on behalf of this year?s HANNOVER MESSE Partner Country.

Powered by global debate addressing the topic of sustainable manufacturing as well as Germany?s new energy policy, new technologies and trends have been gathering lots of added momentum. ?Our exhibitors at HANNOVER MESSE will not only be showcasing the latest solutions across every field of industrial technology, but also unveiling what is just on the verge of market readiness,? remarked von Fritsch.

Some 5,000 exhibitors from 65 different countries will be flying the flag at HANNOVER MESSE 2012, where they will occupy a total display area in excess of 172,000 m² (nearly 1.9 mill. sq. ft.). Almost 50% of these exhibitors come from outside Germany. Alongside China, the countries with the largest contingents of exhibitors include Italy, Turkey, France, Switzerland and the USA. ?HANNOVER MESSE is demonstrating growth across the entire gamut of its featured fairs and themes. This underscores the uniqueness of the event, and the fact that no other trade fair in the world is so closely in tune with the key issues affecting industry today,? explained von Fritsch. ?Compared with 2010 as the most recent event of comparable scope, we have eight percent more exhibitors on board, and they have booked as much as 16 percent more space in total. This accounts for the fact that we have two more exhibition halls in operation this year than two years ago,? explained von Fritsch.

China is teaming up with HANNOVER MESSE to stage its largest showcase ever on foreign soil. The People?s Republic accounts for over 460 exhibitors and displays filling a total of 9,000 m² (nearly 97,000 sq. ft.) of space. Chancellor Merkel recently emphasized that China is, as a nation marked by dynamic growth, ?particularly predestined to be honored as the official Partner Country at the world?s largest industrial trade fair.? From the outset, both governments lent their full support to the Partner Country initiative.

The ?green technology? wave is sweeping across each and every sector of industry. In the run-up to this year?s show, IndustrialGreenTec has already proven to be the most successful new event in the HANNOVER MESSE portfolio. This flagship fair for environmental technology covers the entire array of green technologies available from and for every conceivable industry. 120 exhibitors from 12 countries have signed up for the premiere of IndustrialGreenTec. 80 percent are making their first-ever appearance at HANNOVER MESSE. IndustrialGreenTec represents another important addition to the HANNOVER MESSE portfolio. Last year saw the premiere of Metropolitan Solutions, which showcases cutting-edge technologies for tomorrow?s megacities. Metropolitan Solutions has already established a strong standing in the marketplace, and now boasts double the number of exhibitors and booked space over the inaugural event in 2011.
