Europe and India signed Joint Declaration on Energy
The Joint declaration renews the firm commitment of both sides to enhance cooperation in the energy field, and identifies priority areas for mutually beneficial joint activity. This Declaration will streamline work. From now on the two parties will focus on a number of mutually beneficial topics such as clean coal, energy efficiency, energy safety, renewable energy and smart grids. The scope of the energy dialogue established in 2004 will thus extend to include energy security. With regard to resources, the Declaration aims at bringing together Europe (EU institutions, EU Member States and EU private actors) and India stakeholders to support India in its efforts towards a sustainable economy.
The EU ? India energy partnership has now reached a mature level. Shared objectives include enhancing energy security and safety, promoting energy efficiency, and pursuing sustainable development through, inter alia, the development of clean and renewable energy sources. Energy is also an important pillar of both countries' long-term policies, namely the "Europe 2020 strategy" and the upcoming India "Five Year Plan". The EU and India are committed to foster their relationship in order to share best practices and move in parallel towards a low carbon economy, while ensuring for their citizens a sustainable, secure and affordable energy.
