AWS Truepower, has released high-resolution wind maps and data for the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico and South America in order to support wind project development in these rapidly expanding renewable energy markets.
Wind resource averages and characteristics are available through annual subscriptions to AWS Truepower?s web-based platform, the Wind Site Assessment dashboard. Designed to provide wind developers with 24/7 access to high-resolution wind data, dashboard subscribers can conduct regional prospecting, prioritize development opportunities, and analyze preliminary energy production for over 200 turbine models with site-specific reports.
?Our wind resource data, subscriptions, and reports help prioritize wind development opportunities with a high level of accuracy.? stated Sreeni Krishnamurthy, Director of Information Services at AWS Truepower. ?Our wind resource maps help steer policy decisions and support economic development agendas as well. Looking forward we will continue to expand our global reach in accelerating markets, like Latin America, and provide innovative solutions to our global client base.?
Industry reports indicate that South America may build wind farms with as much as 2,000 megawatts of capacity this year. In 2011, the installed wind energy capacity in Brazil totaled just over 1,500 MW. By the end of 2016, more than 7,000 MW of projects are expected.
